While chiropractic care can offer relief for many conditions, it’s also beneficial for those who have to sit at a desk all day. Sitting in one position for an extended period of time can cause tension headaches, neck and back pain. Chiropractors can help you adjust your posture and find other ways to reduce the strain you may be feeling from spending your days sitting at a desk.

Let’s look at what small changes you can make to move through your day at the office more efficiently.

1 – Adjust your working environment

If you can, adjust your workstation to be more ergonomic. This may include raising your computer screen to eye level, using a wrist rest for your keyboard, and using a chair that supports your back.

If you work on a laptop, it is common for the screen to be too low. Constantly looking down at your screen can put a strain on your neck, causing considerable neck pain.

If you are able to, try using a standing desk. This can help break up the monotony of sitting all day and can be beneficial for your health. This may not be realistic for everyone – but if you can use a standing desk or even a treadmill desk, you will be spending a lot less time sitting, and your body will thank you for the time spent in this different position.

2 – Take breaks often

It’s important to take breaks often during the day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Getting up and walking around while working will help lessen the impact of a sedentary job.  It’s also a good idea to do some stretching exercises during your break.

3 – Work on your posture

When sitting at your desk, make sure to sit up straight with your shoulders back, and this will help align your spine and reduce the tension that can build up from sitting in one position for too long.

Exercising your core is one way to help you hold a better posture. It is also important to be mindful and intentional with how you hold yourself.

4 – See a chiropractor

If you are feeling pain or tension from sitting at a desk all day, it’s a good idea to see a chiropractor. They can help you adjust your posture and find other ways to reduce the strain you may be feeling.
